Training Events and Courses

LEAD’s 2005/6 Fellows Training Programme culminated in a ten-day global training session on environmental governance in Bhopal, India in March and the graduation of 120 new Fellows. Participants came from over thirty countries after having completed national and regional training sessions with their home Member Programmes and worked on their own local projects as part of the course.

LEAD’s partnership programme with UNDP Capacity 2015 has been gaining considerable momentum with a number of training events taking place across the world. The most recent was a five-day training of trainers in Tashkent this March for UNDP capacity development staff and LEAD trainers from central Asia.

Network Activities

The LEAD-Darwin Initiative Project in the Lakshadweep - meaning 'one hundred thousand islands' or 'the islands to steer towards (for water)' - is now fully underway with some fascinating new research emerging about India's only atoll formation which hosts some of the world's most endangered reef species. LEAD Fellow, Deepak Apte, Head of Conservation Department of the Bombay Natural History Society is researching with a local team of expert divers giant clams, indicators of healthy reefs with the ultimate goal to establish a community-reserve.

LEAD is busy preparing for the World Urban Forum (WUF3) in Vancouver, June 19-23 where we will be holding a number of events and activities on the theme of sustainable cities. Our WUF 3 programme includes advance multi-stakeholder dialogues in major cities, advance on-line forums, a formal networking event, LEAD training for select WUF3 participants, and application of "intelligent networking" technology to connect participants before, during and after the Forum. We are particularly focused on the WUF3 sub-themes of energy and urban planning.
