LEAD Africa Director addresses UK conference on climate change
Professor Sosten Chiotha, the Programme Director for LEAD Southern and Eastern Africa, was invited to present the African perspective at a recent meeting in London on “A global future: development pathways in a climate constrained world.” Other speakers included the UK Secretary of State for International Development, Hilary Benn, and the UK Secretary of State for the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, David Miliband.

LEAD China developing green GDP indicators for sustainable cities in China
From the beginning of 2007, LEAD China has been working with the Southern Yangtze University, and the Heinrich Boll Foundation to develop a sustainable set of ‘Green GDP’ indicators for cities in China. The project aims to explore better ways of reducing urban energy consumption and pollution emissions by helping local and national government assess their performance through green accounting measures.

Survey shows LEAD Fellowship Programme positively impacts sustainable development
At the end 2006, LEAD conducted a major ‘Measuring the Impact’ survey of Fellows from its global network to find out how they felt the Fellowship Programme had helped them to prioritise sustainable development. The results were overwhelmingly positive with over 75% of those surveyed saying that the training had a high or very high impact on their lives. Many said going through the LEAD Fellowship programme had been a ‘life-changing experience’.

The LEAD Network targets next generation to become ‘climate leaders’
LEAD’s annual International Training Session will focus on ‘Leadership for Climate Change’, bringing together over one hundred leaders from across the world to equip them to respond to the climate change challenge. These leaders have already completed the LEAD Fellowship programme and will gain further skills and the knowledge to deal with what is likely to be the defining sustainable development challenge facing their generation.
